After citing The Nation’s 125th Anniversary issue in my last post, I realized that I really ought to give a shout-out to another of my favorite magazines that has just had an anniversary. The American Prospect, a monthly journal of politics and policy, is just a kid compared to The Nation and much less well known, but its 25th Anniversary issue, just out, is excellent. Most of the contents are unavailable to non-subscribers, but take a look at the article by political scientists Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson for an insightful overview of the current state of American politics. Their basic question: how is it that the Republican Party has paid no large political price for moving so far to the right?

Very insightful article. And very depressing. And it did not even directly discuss the terrible consequences of the Citizen’s United decision.
