Thomas Friedman has a much larger readership than I have (needless to say). So, I was very happy to see that Friedman’s op-ed today so well expresses some of my own views, making points that I have made repeatedly in this blog, including as recently as yesterday. The main theme: the absolute necessity of resisting the current regime in Washington this election year by replacing Republicans with Democrats in Congress. It’s a theme around which lefties like me and centrists like Friedman should have no trouble making common cause.  Some excerpts from his op-ed:

…[W]hat we’ve learned since 2016 is that the worst Democrat on the ballot for the House or Senate is preferable to the best Republican….I want to see, and I want the world to see, a majority of Americans vote to curtail [Trump’s] power for the next two years…because they want to protect America, its ideals and institutions, from him….

[T]his is Code Red: American democracy is truly threatened today — by the man sitting in the Oval Office and the lawmakers giving him a free pass.”
